OHDSI Germany: Building the Future of Real-World Evidence in Germany

Strengthening interoperable, high-quality health research

OHDSI Germany is part of the global Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) network – a worldwide community that develops open-source methods and tools for high-quality Real-World Evidence. We unite experts from medicine, data science, academia, healthcare systems, and industry to accelerate collaborative, transparent research based on the OMOP Common Data Model.

As a non-profit organisation, Data4Life supports OHDSI Germany as a new co-lead to help scale and strengthen the community, expand knowledge sharing, and enable more institutions in Germany to use OMOP responsibly and effectively.

Our Mission in OHDSI Germany: Empowering German researchers and clinicians to participate in global RWE studies

Germany has a growing OHDSI community since 2021. Together, we work to:

  • Build sustainable, interoperable structures for Real-World Evidence
  • Lower barriers for institutions adopting the OMOP Common Data Model
  • Connect national activities with international OHDSI initiatives
  • Strengthen coordination and collaboration across sectors
  • Ensure health data is used responsibly, transparently, and for public benefit
You don´t know the OHDSI community yet?

The Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI, pronounced “Odyssey”) is a global, open-science community that aims to improve health through large-scale observational research.

At the heart of OHDSI lies the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM), which enables the harmonization of real-world health data from different sources. This allows data to be analyzed consistently across institutions and countries, while protecting privacy and sovereignty.

The Value for Germany’s Research Ecosystem: Interoperability, quality, and international comparability

With OMOP and the OHDSI framework:

  • German research becomes more comparable internationally
  • Collaborative studies become more accessible
  • Inter-institutional data use becomes more efficient and reliable
  • Research quality, transparency, and reproducibility increase
  • Clinicians and scientists gain scalable tools for RWE

Our engagement supports an open and cooperative ecosystem where researchers can build impactful RWE studies not only faster but also at higher quality.

Aligned with our platform vision

Data4Life’s research platform Data2Evidence (D2E) is designed to be OHDSI-compatible from the ground up:
